Saga vs Myvi : Sub 40K hot seller

Assalamualaikum and Good Evening..

It is a very good day today and I would like to share about something that I like,I love n I love. The new Perodua Myvi just got launched a month ago n myb in a few days more, Proton would launch their upgraded Saga with new CVT transmission called Proton Saga FLX.Choices have become harder from day to day with more introduction of new models, it is indeed an advantage to the consumers but also give a headache when making a decision.

So,let me share a history a bit of both model before we take a zoom-zoom with it..

Perodua Myvi was first launched on May 2005..It then has become national best selling car for five consecutive years with averaging 8000 cars sold every month.Proton Saga was then launched on January 2008 and it is targeted to stop the controlling of market by the Perodua Myvi model but still Perodua Myvi wins hands down as the Saga was sold averaging only 6000 cars per month. The Myvi has its facelift on 2008 before having its replacement recently. While the Saga just had its facelift on the December 2010 and it is right now is the best seller car for a few month due to the low production of Myvi currently having. With the introduction of CVT transmission into its lineup, it is expected to be the best selling car due to the competitiveness of its pricing..

Well right now,let have a zoom-zoom with these model.

EXTERIOR

These are the pictures of Saga and Myvi with the front view. For me, the Saga still wins for the exterior design even the facelift made towards this model is a bit too much. For example, the tinier tail lamp and a bit weird style headlamp. But then, it is quite impressive to have a manufacturer doing this as most of them are cutting cost!

INTERIOR

In this section, the Myvi wins. The dashboard, the meter cluster of the Myvi since the first generation of it really looks nice and premium compared to Saga which is really dull. This can be seen from the picture..And one good thing of Myvi, it is really spacious inside even it is just a compact B-segment hatchback. But still, Saga is bigger due to it is a sedan.

LUGGAGE

Saga wins in this part due to it is a sedan while Myvi is a hatchback car. Saga has 419 liters of space in its boot while Myvi is 208 liters of space,17 liters less compared to the first generation Myvi.

POWER

Having driving the Saga prefacelift and the old Myvi, all I can say Myvi will win in this part. The pick up of the Myvi feel responsive due to its lighter weight. But with the introduction of CVT transmission later,it will improve the current underpower problem having by the Saga. Anyway, this is specification of the engine of both car.

Myvi – K3-VE DOHC 16 Valve with DVVT
Power : 67 kW/ 91 hp at 6000rpm
Torque : 117 Nm at 4400rpm
Saga – Campro IAFM Four Cylinder, 16 Valve
Power : 70 kW/ 94 hp at 5750rpm
Torque : 120 Nm at 4000rpm

HANDLING

In this part, Saga cant be challenged by the Myvi as it has the DNA of Lotus Handling. Driving into a curvy road will be very much fun with the Saga compared to Myvi. Both car also has quite the same maximum speed which is around 160-170 km/h. However the way both cars handle during the high speed are different. Myvi will start shaking and swaying when going above 140 km/h while the Saga still can be handled even being driven around 160 km/h.

NVH AND COMFORT

What is NVH? It is actually about the noise, vibration and harshness. For the noise, having driving the old Myvi for quite a time, I do feel the noise insulation in Myvi is better compared to Saga. With the new replacement, it is expected to be better but I do think it will be not much different from the old model.
On the other hand, Saga is quite a comfy car due to its soft spring and a sedan. It is a good car for travelling back ‘balik kampung’ and even a city car. It handles quite good in uneven road compared to Myvi. Myvi is a good car but it is not really that comfy as it is quite bouncy especially when going along an uneven road and it becomes worst when doing a high speed driving.

FUEL CONSUMPTION

Myvi is a good city car as it has low fuel consumption compared to Saga. In real world driving in city, Myvi can achieve around 12-13 km per litre compared to Saga which is around 10-11 km per litre. The new Myvi is expected doing around the same figure( or a bit better) while the new Saga with CVT is expected to improve a bit its fuel consumption especially in city driving which the current model doing quite a bad job compared to others in this segment.

CONCLUSION

These are some of my opinion and sharing on two best seller car model in Malaysia. Both cars have their advantages and disadvantages and it depends on what you really want. Do you think the extra five thousands really worth to be invested for a Myvi or instead just settle down with the cheaper Saga. Remember, one car cannot satisfy all your needs. Some may need it to use in city, some may need to use it for travel, and some may just want a good fuel consumption.. Therefore, the choice is yours. Just make sure you make a decision that give you the best value of money.
